Most probiotic formulas contain only Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species — strains that require refrigeration and still face significant losses through the gastric environment before reaching the intestinal mucosa. Three of the five strains in this formula are Bacillus spore-formers: B. clausii SC109, B. subtilis HU58, and B. coagulans SC208. In spore form, these organisms survive stomach acid, heat, and ambient storage; they germinate in the small intestine where they become metabolically active. The survival rate through the GI tract is substantially higher than standard Lactobacillus-only products, and no refrigeration is required. The Lactobacillus strains are selected for women specifically — L. rhamnosus HN001 and L. acidophilus La-14 both have published evidence for vaginal microbiome support, not just digestive health.
